Dr. Moses Shumow speaks about what is it like to have powerful media owners. He starts his lecture with explanation of the 5 A’s of media literacy and then introduces theories that explains how we understand media and the media we consume. Dr. Shumow also discusses the impact of politics on media and vice versa.
Dr. Moses Shumow is an associate professor of digital media in the Department of Journalism and Media at Florida International University. His research focuses the convergence of communication, media and geography in urban spaces, and the ways in which critical pedagogy and media literacy can engage these phenomena to form a radical approach in the classroom. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Miami, and in a prior career worked in documentary filmmaking for media outlets such as National Geographic, Discovery, and PBS.
