Abstract
There is no doubt the field of media studies across the Arab world today in academic media programs and training centers, continues to boom, but this rapid expansion has met numerous obstacles that continue to negatively affect the quality of media education and research across the region. This chapter delineates these problems and offers recommendations for improving Arab media studies—a term used loosely to encompass the various media-related sub-fields, such as journalism, communication, mass communication, etc., offered at universities across the Arab world. The chapter relies on current and past studies and on original data acquired from interviews with forty-six media studies educators teaching at Arab universities.
