“Security in the Digital Age” hosted Dr. Claudia Kozman (LAU) as moderator and Ms. Jessica Dheere (SMEX), Ms. Nay Rai (LAU), Mr. Ali Sibai (IWPR), and Mr. Mahdy Charafeddin (AFE), to discuss the security issues that faces human rights activists during war and conflict. The panelists provided case studies from their field of work and answered questions from the audience.
Moderator: Claudia Kozman is an assistant professor of multimedia journalism in the Department of Communication Arts and the Research Director of the Institute of Media Research and Training at the Lebanese American University.
Panelists:
Nay Rai: Nay El-Rahi is a feminist writer, activist, and ILO certified gender audit. She has a BA in journalism from the Lebanese University and an MA in Global Media and Gender from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London.
Jessica Dheeree: A former journalist, Jessica is co-founder and co-director at SMEX. In addition to day-to-day management of the organization, she has led the design and delivery of innovative media development programs in strategic social media, digital advocacy, and digital journalism.
Mahdy Caharfeddine: He is a technical leader with expertise to design, architect and implement solutions for complex customer problems involving modern infrastructure.
Ali Sibai: Ali Sibai, has 8 years of experience in the areas of civic leadership, youth advocacy and human rights. He has worked with academic institutions, local and international non-governmental organizations in his areas of specialization in the MENA region.
